The Nigerian Air Force Officers’ Wives Association (NAFOWA) on Monday inaugurated the Young Achievers Club to mentor and inspire students in the barracks to become responsible future leaders.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony at the NAFOWA School, Asokoro, Abuja, the National President of NAFOWA and the Wife of Chief of Air Staff, Dr. Rakiya Abubakar, said the club was established “out of necessity” to guide children in their career choices, instill morals and leadership skills, and help them manage the stress, anxiety, and pressure that comes with transitioning into adulthood.
According to Rakiya, the club was more than just a platform, but a family where children and youth could “learn values, build skills, discover their talents and grow in confidence.”
“It is also a safe space where they will be encouraged to excel academically, morally and socially, while keeping strong to their faith and identity,” she said.
The NAFOWA President said the club also aims to achieve the acquisition of relevant vocational skills that can be turned into hobbies, and had made deliberate efforts to incorporate learning first aid medical skills like Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), in addition to “providing counselling sessions on puberty, emotional intelligence and sexual education”.
She noted that the maiden programme of the Young Achievers Club was free and open to all teenagers from 13 years of age residing in Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Bases across the country.
While appreciating the Chief of Air Staff, the Chief of Administration and Commander 065 NAF Hospital, for their contributions to the success of the event, the NAFOWA President urged the students to be disciplined and determined in pursuing their goals in life.
“You are never too young to make a difference. With discipline, kindness and determination, there is no limit to what you can accomplish.
“Together, let us build a generation that will make us proud, our community stronger and our nation greater,” she said.
