Oyo speaker congratulates Oba Ladoja, says Olubadan succession process unique

The Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly and Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin has congratulated former Oyo State Governor, Oba Rasidi Ladoja, on his official confirmation and approval as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.

Ogundoyin described Oba Ladoja’s ascension as a historic milestone that combines royalty, experience, and statesmanship, noting that Ibadanland is set for a new era of peace, wisdom, and progress.

In a statement issued by his media office, the Speaker commended Governor Seyi Makinde for promptly approving the nomination of Oba Ladoja by the Olubadan-in-Council, thereby upholding the cherished Ibadan chieftaincy tradition.

“Congratulations to Oba Rasidi Ladoja on his ascension to the enviable throne of Olubadan of Ibadanland. May your reign bring unity, prosperity, and renewed glory to Ibadanland and the entire Oyo State,” Ogundoyin said.

He further praised the Ibadan succession system as one of the most peaceful, organised, and credible frameworks of royal transition in Nigeria, stressing that the enthronement of Oba Ladoja is both a unifying moment and a testament to the uniqueness of Ibadan’s traditional structure.

“The seamless emergence of a new Olubadan without rancour is a strong testament to the strength and dignity of the Ibadan traditional institution. It is a model worthy of emulation across the country,” the Speaker noted.

Ogundoyin further acknowledged Oba Ladoja’s remarkable contributions to Oyo State and Nigeria as a whole, saying his wealth of experience as a former Governor, distinguished Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, accomplished politician, and elder statesman will be invaluable in furthering the development and cultural prestige of Ibadanland.

He concluded by calling on all indigenes and residents of Ibadan to support the incoming monarch and actively participate in the forthcoming coronation ceremony scheduled for September 26, 2025, at Mapo Hall, Ibadan.
