…unveils personal income tax calculator
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has assured Nigerians that the new tax reform laws recently signed into law were designed to relieve the most vulnerable from tax burdens, ensure fairness, and promote true redistribution of the nation’s commonwealth.
In a message posted on his verified X handle, @officialABAT, the President said the laws, which take effect from January 2026, embody his administration’s commitment to building a transparent and equitable tax system.
“A fair tax system must never punish poverty or weigh down the most vulnerable. With the new tax laws I recently signed, taking effect from January 2026, we have lifted this burden and created a path of equity, fairness, and true redistribution in our economy,” Tinubu stated.
To aid compliance and enhance transparency, the President also announced the launch of a Personal Income Tax Calculator, which enables citizens to check their estimated tax under the new laws against what they currently pay.
He explained that the tool demonstrates how the reforms protect low-income earners, strengthen progressivity, and simplify compliance.
According to him, the calculator is available at fiscalreforms.ng/index.php/pit-…, and is intended to show clearly the impact of the reforms on individual taxpayers.
“Together, we are renewing hope in the Nigeria of our dreams. Take a bet on our country. Bet on Nigeria to work for you, your family, and your community,” the President added.
The tax reforms are part of the administration’s broader fiscal restructuring agenda aimed at strengthening revenue mobilisation while ensuring that ordinary citizens are not unfairly burdened.
