No fewer than 4,000 residents of Eket/ONNA/Esit-Eket/Ibeno Federal Constituency have benefitted from an eight-day free medical and ophthalmological outreach sponsored by their National Assembly representative, Okpolupm Etteh.
The intervention, which moved across the four local government areas, offered critical medical attention to indigent patients who could not afford healthcare.
According to the medical team, the outreach recorded 1,523 medical and surgical cases, 926 eye consultations, 1,618 laboratory tests, 914 pairs of reading glasses dispensed, 57 eye surgeries, and 246 general surgeries.
The surgeries included procedures such as myomectomy, appendectomy, hysterectomy, herniorrhaphy, hydrocelectomy, intestinal obstruction treatment, and ovarian cyst removal.
The programme was held at key health centres, including Cottage Hospital, Upenekang (Ibeno), Cottage Hospital, Ekpene Obo (Esit-Eket), General Hospital, Awa-Iman (ONNA), and Immanuel General Hospital (Eket).
Rep. Etteh described the initiative as part of his commitment to human capital and social development, aimed at improving the quality of life for his constituents.
“Healthcare is a basic right, not a privilege. I am grateful to God that through this outreach, we were able to touch lives, save lives, and give hope to families. This is just the beginning, and we will continue to prioritise the well-being of our people,” he stated.
Medical experts, led by Dr. Unanam Ekaette, who participated in the programme, described it as one of the most far-reaching interventions in recent years in the constituency, given the volume and diversity of medical cases attended to.
