
Job Summary
- The Senior Accounts Officer is responsible for managing core accounting functions, ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with statutory regulations, and contributing to the efficient operation of the finance department.
- The role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple accounting processes effectively.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Accounting:
- Prepare and maintain accurate financial records in accordance with accounting standards
- Ensure timely posting of journal entries, ledger reconciliation, and monthly closings
- Generate financial reports, including P&L statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports
- Support internal and external audits by providing documentation and clarification
Accounts Payable & Receivable:
- Oversee invoice processing, vendor payments, and account reconciliations
- Monitor ageing reports and follow up on outstanding receivables
- Ensure prompt billing and collection of revenues from clients
Budgeting & Forecasting:
- Assist in budget preparation and financial forecasting activities
- Monitor departmental budgets and highlight variances or risks to management
Tax & Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements e.g., VAT, PAYE, WHT, corporate tax
- Prepare and file statutory returns in a timely and accurate manner
- Keep abreast of changes in tax regulations and accounting standards
Internal Controls & Process Improvement:
- Implement and maintain financial controls and accounting procedures
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and recommend efficiencies
- Maintain documentation for all accounting processes and systems
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably in a mid to large-sized company
- Professional certification ICAN, ACCA, CPA is an added advantage
- Proficiency in accounting software e.g., Sage, QuickBooks, SAP, or ERP systems
- Strong MS Excel skills pivot tables, formulas, etc.
