Job Summary

  • The Senior Accounts Officer is responsible for managing core accounting functions, ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with statutory regulations, and contributing to the efficient operation of the finance department.
  • The role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple accounting processes effectively.

Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Accounting:

  • Prepare and maintain accurate financial records in accordance with accounting standards
  • Ensure timely posting of journal entries, ledger reconciliation, and monthly closings
  • Generate financial reports, including P&L statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports
  • Support internal and external audits by providing documentation and clarification

Accounts Payable & Receivable:

  • Oversee invoice processing, vendor payments, and account reconciliations
  • Monitor ageing reports and follow up on outstanding receivables
  • Ensure prompt billing and collection of revenues from clients

Budgeting & Forecasting:

  • Assist in budget preparation and financial forecasting activities
  • Monitor departmental budgets and highlight variances or risks to management

Tax & Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements e.g., VAT, PAYE, WHT, corporate tax
  • Prepare and file statutory returns in a timely and accurate manner
  • Keep abreast of changes in tax regulations and accounting standards

Internal Controls & Process Improvement:

  • Implement and maintain financial controls and accounting procedures
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and recommend efficiencies
  • Maintain documentation for all accounting processes and systems

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably in a mid to large-sized company
  • Professional certification ICAN, ACCA, CPA is an added advantage
  • Proficiency in accounting software e.g., Sage, QuickBooks, SAP, or ERP systems
  • Strong MS Excel skills pivot tables, formulas, etc.
