National Security: President Tinubu Convenes Meeting Of Council Of State Thursday

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, has invited members of the Council of State and the Police Council to a hybrid strategic meeting scheduled for Thursday, October 9, 2025.

In a statement signed by the Director of Information and Public Relations, Segun Imohiosen on Monday,  the meeting will take place at the Council Chambers, Aso Villa.

According to the Permanent Secretary, Cabinet Affairs Office, Dr. Emanso Okop Umobong, “the meeting aims to discuss matters of national importance and key issues affecting national security and policing.”

The schedule indicates that the meeting with the Council of State will begin at 1pm, while the session with the Police Council will follow at 2pm.

“Members are requested to participate either physically or virtually,” the statement added.

The SGF’s office emphasised that the gathering is part of efforts to strengthen coordination among key national institutions and foster collaborative decision-making on critical governance and security matters.

“This high-level meeting underscores President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to addressing pressing national issues and ensuring the safety and security of citizens,” the statement concluded.

Members of the Council of State in the country includes; the President who is the Chairman, Vice President who is the deputy chairman, all former Presidents and former of Head of Government of the Federation, all former Chief Justices of Nigeria, President of Senate, Speaker of House of Representatives, all Governors of the States of the Federation, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation.

The development comes amid insecurity in the country.

Earlier, SaharaReporters reported that the wave of bandit attacks ravaging parts of Kwara took a fresh and tragic turn, as gunmen invaded Rani Ramat village in Patigi Local Government Area on Sunday evening, killing one person and abducting the village head.

According to NupekoTV-Lafiagi, the attack occurred around 6:20pm, coinciding with the Maghrib (sunset) prayer, when residents had gathered at the mosque.

Witnesses said the assailants stormed the community on motorcycles and began shooting indiscriminately, throwing the area into chaos.
