Brig.-Gen Uba assumes duty as new Military spokesman, pledges to counter false narratives

The new Director of Defence Information (DDI), Brig.-Gen. Samailla Mohammed Uba, assumed office on Thursday, promising to prioritise a unified narrative that highlights the collective achievements of all the services of the armed forces in a timely and transparent manner, countering information disorder and preempting speculative reportage.

Speaking after taking the mantle of leadership from the immediate past DDI, Brig.-Gen. Tukur Gusau, at the Defence Headquarters, Uba said the mandate of Office of the DDI, which serves as the bridge between armed forces, the media, and the public, was foundational to national cohesion and the morale of our troops.

According to him, in an era defined by rapid information exchange, evolving defence and security challenges, and the pervasive influence of digital platforms, strategic communication is not merely a tool, it is a force multiplier.

He said: “Under my watch, the Directorate of Defence Information will operate under four strategic priorities, these are Unity of Purpose, Timeliness and Transparency, Digital Innovation and Effective Media Relations.

“I will prioritise seamless coordination among the public relations and information directorates of the Army, the Navy, and the Air Force. Our strength lies in a unified narrative that amplifies the collective achievements of our services while respecting their unique identities.

“Regular joint briefings, shared platforms and synchronized messaging will ensure we speak with one voice. This unity of purpose is also cognizant of the need to cooperate with spokesmen of other security agencies as symbolized by the attendance of my good friend the Nigeria Police Spokesman CSP Benjamin Hundeyin.
