Monterey native Mina Kreiter (née Harigae) became only the second woman to win the 54th TaylorMade Pebble Beach Invitational, joining LPGA Hall of Famer Juli Inkster, who won in 1990. The event includes pros from the PGA, LPGA, Champions and Korn Ferry Tours who compete from different tees for the same $300,000 purse.
Kreiter, 36, carded a women’s course-record 64 at The Links at Spanish Bay in Round 2 to set herself up well for the finish last Sunday at Pebble Beach Golf Links. A final-round 73 proved enough to give the LPGA pro a three-shot victory over Cameron Sisk and John Mallinger. Kreiter finished at 14 under for the tournament. After opening with a 69 at Pebble Beach, she sizzled with a 64 at Spanish Bay and added a third-round 68 at Spyglass Hill.
“Thank you to the ones that have supported me through these tough couple of years on and off the golf course,” Kreiter wrote in an Instagram post, “And the biggest thank you to my other half @tkreiter12 we finally did it!! This one’s for you.”
Kreiter attended the Stevenson School while growing up in Monterey, where her parents own a restaurant in nearby Pacific Grove called Takara Sushi.
The winner of four consecutive California Women’s Amateur titles from 2001 to 2005, Harigae became a USGA champion when she won the now-defunct 2007 U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links Championship. After a brief stint at Duke, Kreiter turned professional in 2009.
In 2021, Kreiter represented the U.S. at the Solheim Cup and in 2022, she finished runner-up to Minjee Lee at the U.S. Women’s Open at Pine Needles. This season, Kreiter has played a mixture of LPGA and Epson Tour events.
“The TaylorMade Pebble Beach Invitational has gathered one of the most unique fields in golf with professionals from the PGA, LPGA, Champions and Korn Ferry Tours for more than half a century,” said David Stivers, CEO of Pebble Beach Company. “This past week stands out for several reasons, none more so than Monterey’s own Mina Harigae setting the women’s course record at Spanish Bay with a 64 and joining hall of famer, Juli Inkster as the second woman to win the event.”
