Hon. Wale Adedoyin, also known as Eyiyato, a prominent political figure and former lawmaker in Osun State, has broken his silence regarding the viral video circulating online, in which he was seen issuing threats against Barrister Femi Onigbogi, a legal practitioner.
The video, which has since gone viral across social media, captured Adedoyin at an All Progressives Congress (APC) weekly meeting in Ilesa, saying in Yoruba: “Tell Femi Onigbogi not to come out; he should stay inside. If he comes out, he will be killed.”
Adedoyin, a former Commissioner for Agriculture under Governor Rauf Aregbesola and one-time representative of Ilesa West in the Osun State House of Assembly, reportedly made the statement while addressing party members on Sunday.
The footage, obtained by SaharaReporters, quickly went viral, fueling widespread condemnation and speculation about deepening internal rifts within the Osun APC.
However, speaking exclusively to SaharaReporters on Monday, Adedoyin confirmed the confrontation but insisted that his outburst was provoked by what he described as “a barrage of insults” from Onigbogi during a heated verbal exchange.
According to him, Onigbogi “not only hurled offensive words” at him but also “extended his insults to members of my family,” an act he characterised as “provocative and deeply disrespectful.”
“The confrontation was not premeditated,” Adedoyin explained. “It was a heated exchange that got out of hand after Barrister Onigbogi directed a series of verbal attacks at me. He insulted me personally and went as far as to insult my family members. As a human being with emotions and dignity, I responded in the heat of the moment.”
The former lawmaker also addressed the circulation of an audio recording allegedly featuring a woman identified as Mrs. Dupe Dagunduro, the wife of Onigbogi. In the viral voice note, the woman was heard hurling curses and verbal abuse at Adedoyin.
“Subsequently, a widely circulated voice note emerged on social media,” Adedoyin recounted. “In the recording, a woman who identified herself as Dupe Dagunduro issued a series of curses and insults against me. The voice note caused outrage and was later confirmed to have come from the wife of Barrister Femi Onigbogi.”
In the audio, the woman, reportedly identified as Mrs Dagunduro, said, “Before it gets cold, Wale Adedoyin, I join all the good women, all the bad women, and all the mothers in the world: you will die. A vehicle will kill you. I am Dupe Dagunduro; I am not scared of your war. Wale Adedoyin, you will die. You won’t be successful; you will be dishonoured everywhere you go.”
“Because you intervened in what does not concern you, you will get wasted,” the woman said in the video.
The recording, which spread rapidly across WhatsApp groups and Facebook pages, drew condemnation from social media users who described the remarks as “vile, inflammatory, and unbecoming of someone associated with a legal professional.”
Adedoyin maintained that the actions of both Onigbogi and his wife were “deeply provocative” and triggered his own response.
“The actions of both Barr. Onigbogi and his wife, particularly the tone and content of their verbal attacks, elicited a strong counter-reaction from me,” he said.
“As a human being with emotions and dignity, I expressed my displeasure and responded accordingly, in defense of my name, reputation, and the integrity of my family,” he added.
