Igbo Diasporan Group Accuses South-East Governors Of “Silent Complicity” Demands Nnamdi Kanu’s Release

A group of Igbo professionals in the diaspora have accused governors and political leaders from Nigeria’s South-East region, of “silent complicity” in what it described as the systematic extermination of Igbo youth.

In a letter signed by Dr. Dunkwu Agbambu on behalf of the Ikenga Think-Thank, North America, the group condemned what it termed the betrayal of the Igbo people by their leaders.

The letter was addressed to South-East governors, senators, and security agencies operating in the region.

The letter, “To the governors and political leaders of Igbo land, we, the sons and daughters of Igbo in the diaspora, write to you with hearts heavy with grief and indignation.

“Your silent complicity in the face of the ongoing persecution and systematic extermination of Igbo youth is an unforgivable betrayal of our people and of history itself.”

The group alleged that Igbo youths are being targeted under the guise of a crackdown on members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

“Yet today, under your very watch, Igbo youth are hunted down, incarcerated, raped and slaughtered in the guise of pursuing IPOB members,” the group stated.

It further claimed that there have been “numerous reports of destruction of lives, properties, and businesses of Igbo folks all over Nigeria without any remedy, yet you remain inert.

“Your deafening silence emboldens the perpetrators of this genocide and exposes your indifference to the sacred blood of our people.”

The group warned that it was documenting the leaders’ actions and inactions for future accountability.

“Let it be clear, we in the diaspora are watching with keen eyes, documenting every action and inactions, and keeping records for the inevitable day of reckoning.

“The judgment of history is inevitable and merciless, and no amount of political calculation or compromise with oppressors will absolve you of responsibility,” the letter stated.

It reminded the South East governors of their constitutional duty to protect their people, accusing them of betraying that obligation while “Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the prophet of our time and voice of a silenced people, remains unjustly incarcerated.”

The group declared, “We remind you that your loyalty is not to Abuja, nor to the fleeting privileges of office, but to the survival and dignity of our people.

“If you continue on this path of silence and betrayal, history will not remember you kindly.”

The group demanded, “A clear, united condemnation of the targeted killings and unlawful persecution of Igbo youth and Igbos in general.

“An active and public demand for the immediate release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and mass release of all Biafran agitators.

“Concrete steps to secure our homeland from external terror and internal betrayal.

“Immediate withdrawal and closures of all military checkpoints in Igbo land.”

The group warned that “the time has come to choose, stand with your people, or stand exposed as willing accomplices to their destruction.

“The choice is yours, but know that we are watching, the world is watching, and posterity will not forget.”
