A locum consultant ophthalmologist is required to provides expert, temporary patient care, diagnosing and treating eye conditions, performing surgery, educating patients, and supervising junior staff. Requirements include an equivalent medical degree and ophthalmology residency, state licensure, comprehensive knowledge of eye anatomy and diseases, strong hand-eye coordination, and robust administrative skills. 

Responsibilities:

  • Provide high-quality clinical services, diagnosing and treating a wide range of eye conditions, diseases, and disorders. 
  • Conduct routine eye examinations, perform vision tests, and use therapeutic procedures to assess and treat patients. 
  • Perform eye surgeries as needed. 
  • Advise patients on eye health, vision correction options, and lifestyle changes to manage their condition. 
  • Work with other doctors and the multidisciplinary team to ensure comprehensive patient care. 
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date patient records and medical histories. 
  • Participate in risk management, clinical governance, and quality improvement initiatives. 

Requirements:

  • Medical degree and successful completion of an ophthalmology residency. 
  • A valid state license to practice ophthalmology. 
  • Expert working knowledge of the diseases, functions, and anatomy of the eye. 
  • Adherence to good medical practice principles and commitment to ongoing training.
