Position Overview

  • Thomas Adewumi University is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our Bursary Department to oversee the Business Ventures of the University operations. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with statutory regulations, effective internal control, and sound financial management practices to support the University’s strategic goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise day-to-day accounting operations including accounts payable, receivable, payroll, and bank reconciliations.
  • Prepare, review, and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Ensure compliance with Nigerian tax laws and other statutory financial obligations.
  • Support budget preparation, monitoring, and variance analysis.
  • Implement strong internal controls, risk management, and financial policies.
  • Provide financial insights to management for decision-making.
  • Liaise with external auditors, regulators, and financial institutions.
  • Mentor and supervise junior accountants and accounting staff.
  • Contribute to process improvements and adoption of digital financial systems.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field Master’s degree or MBA is an added advantage.
  • Professional accounting qualification: ICAN, ACCA, or ANAN mandatory.
  • Minimum of 7 years progressive accounting experience, at least 3 years in a supervisory role preferably in higher education or non-profit sector.
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS, IPSAS, and Nigerian financial regulations.
  • Proficiency in accounting software e.g., XERO, Sage, QuickBooks, or ERP systems and advanced Microsoft Excel.
  • High ethical standards, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills.

Salary & Benefits

  • Salary Range: ₦550,000 – ₦800,000 per month depending on qualifications and experience.
