The onset configuration places the shaft straight into the head behind the leading edge, slightly to the heel side of center. This setup makes the top line and the white alignment stripe pop at address. While the look may resemble some zero-torque designs, Ping is not positioning this as a zero-torque putter and is not claiming that it is. The onset location is meant to aid setup and alignment, not to lock the face through the stroke.
If your stroke is very straight back and through, you typically fit better in a face-balanced putters, while players with a strong arc often prefer more toe hang. The Ally Blue Onset has 15 degrees of toe-down balance, which fits golfers who put a slight arc on the stroke. That mild level of toe hang lets the toe release just enough so the face can return to square without feeling flippy. Ping lists the 15-degree spec to “achieve a slight arc.”
Under the hood, the head combines a machined 6061 aluminum top with a 304 stainless steel sole plate, moving mass low and deep for stability on mishits.
